As we strive to improve our On Time In Full (OTIF) performance, we often look at the sequential nature of our processes.

This gives us a timeline that could look like this:

However, many of these steps require some form of preparation.

If you don’t start your preparation until the previous step has finished, you end up with a timeline like this:

But, if we can trigger the preparation of each step earlier on, we gain the opportunity to shorten the overall lead time.

In this case, the starting of the first step can start the remaining three steps:

So, the question is this:

“What triggers are present in your business that you aren’t making best use of?”

Can you think of some and re-organise your communications inside of your business, to take advantage of them?

With a shorter lead time, you might find it easier to achieve consistently high levels of on time delivery performance.
