To write, or not to write
We all know that documenting how our business operates is essential in the long run.
If you've read my book Effective SOPs then you know that I believe strongly in SOPs.
However, taking time out from your busy day to write an SOP... well that's something that often get's left for another day (that never arrives).
I rarely get excited about documentation software, but Scribe staggered me at how quickly I could work with clients to document their processes. We're talking a few minutes compared to thirty to sixty minutes to capture screenshots in a word processor.
Personal experience
The first time I used Scribe, I was sitting with a nervous junior member of a client's team.
They'd never used it before, let alone used the part of the system we were improving.
We hit the capture button ran through the handful of steps and ended the capture.
Within a few seconds we had a document ready to edit. We change a couple of references but two minutes later the first process was documented. That was it!
Their previous SOPs would have taken around half an hour to write:
The rest of the SOPs got written in the next half an hour, immediately available for the whole team!
Why write SOPs?
If you haven't used SOPs in the past, here are a few good reasons why writing them can help your business:
Why not record a video?
A popular alternative to a written SOP is a video recording.
This can work well too, but you need to watch a lot of video to find the information you need. Skimming a written document can often be much faster.
Plus, Scribe has a feature that allows you to talk whilst you are capturing the screen and it will transcribe that into your instructions.
If you don't want to talk, let Scribe figure it out for you and quickly edit what it proposes (if you need to).
